WELCOME

The Fraternal Order of Police was formed in Pittsburgh, Pa. in 1915 in an effort to better the working conditions faced by the officers in that time. Since then, the Fraternal Order of Police has continued to grow.

We now have over 320,000 members comprising over 2100 local lodges throughout the United States, making us the largest professional police organization in the country. More about our organization can be found at www.grandlodgefop.org.

The Mississippi State Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police was formed in Laurel, Mississippi in November of 1989. Prior to this time there were several local lodges operating on their own. Some of the lodges in Mississippi have now been open for over fifty years. Laurel Lodge #2 was started in 1952 and Meridian Lodge #1 at about the same time.

The Mississippi State Lodge now has ten local lodges which it represents. These lodges are located in Meridian, Laurel, Gautier, Natchez, Waynesboro, Pearl, the Jackson VA Hospital Police, the Gulf Coast Lodge, the Green County Lodge and the Desoto County Lodge.

Our organization is one that is operated for and by police officers. We have no “high paid executives” in our organization. All of our officers are elected by local membership through voting at the Local, State and National levels. All of our elected officers are either active or retired law enforcement professionals, many serving the organization without compensation of any kind.

The Fraternal Order of Police has many different programs to aid law enforcement officers. Training is offered on the National and State levels. A National Legislative office is located and staffed in Washington D.C. and aids all the membership with their lobbying efforts. We have a State Legislative Director that monitors legislation within Mississippi. A strong legal defense plan is available for members. We have a bullet proof vest program that aids members with the purchase of vests.

Our lodges on the Local, State and National levels also conduct many charitable drives and functions to include the Shop With A Cop Program for disadvantaged children, and our National Charity, the Easter Seals Program. FOP members have raised more than 13 Million dollars in the past 27 years for the Easter Seals Program.

The Mississippi State Lodge has endowed two scholarship funds, so far, at the University of Southern Mississippi and Mississippi State University. These scholarships are used to further the education of those individuals pursuing degrees in law enforcement. We also fund individual scholarships for our members and their immediate families.
